Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She was part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss topics like that of the Iran Contra controversy.
